Choosing a Solar Energy Installer: Three Things to Look For
Are you considering a solar PV panel installation for your home? Here’s the good news: the number of residential solar PV installers is growing, as demand for solar systems increases. The bad news? You still don’t have as many choices as you do in other home contractors. (That may also be good news, as it’s less information to sift through before making your final decision.)
You can begin your search right here at EcoOutfitters.net. Here are a few things to look for in a solar energy installer:
Certifications: The world of solar energy certifications is ever-evolving as the industry continues to grow, but many companies train employees based on North American Board of Certified Energy Professionals (NABCEP) standards. Just keep in mind that nearly anyone can take a course and consider themselves certified in the relatively new field of solar energy, so consider other factors as well. Additionally, a licensed electrician should be part of your solar PV installation, and if you are getting a solar hot water system installed, you’ll want a certified plumber on site, too.
Experience: As with any home contractor, you want a solar PV installer with extensive experience working on homes and solar PV systems like yours. Ask for references (make sure to check them!) and ask to see samples of his or her work, along with examples of how much energy the systems generate and how much the solar PV system has cut residents’ electric bills.
Quality and variety of equipment: The more quality brands a solar PV installer carries, the greater the odds he or she will have the right solar solution for your property. Ask what brands and models your solar contractor carries, and then research the equipment, reading reviews online and in solar energy magazines.
