Why Solar Makes Us Sing
Whenever I’m driving around with my daughter and it starts to rain, she makes me play B.J. Thomas’ “Raindrops Keep Fallin’ on My Head.” (Even though it’s the Burt Bacharach version my mother used to sing to me.)
Whenever Mr. Thomas croons, “So I just did me some talkin’ to the sun / And I said I didn’t like the way he’ got things done / Sleepin’ on the job” it makes me think of solar panels. More and more today, the sun’s “job” is to provide us with clean, free electricity.
That got me thinking about some sunny numbers that remind the bright sunny team of EcoOutfitters.net of solar energy and, in turn, make us sing. Here are our picks!
“Here Comes the Sun” (The Beatles) – I confess, the chorus to this song has been going through my head the whole time I’ve been writing this post. It’s probably one of the most well-known sunshine songs ever sung. ::Hums…::
“Bright, Bright Sunshine-y Day” – This is another one of those catchy tunes that can wake you up with a smile on your face. And for solar homeowners, when the sun is shining they’ll smile even more, because they’re saving money.
“You Are My Sunshine” – The ultimate love song to a partner or a child, this song frequently makes the list at library story times for children and is a great sing-along number. After you’re done singing to your little one, why not create a “teaching moment,” and explain just why sunshine is such a good thing? Its irradiation can be used to power toys and calculators, charge cell phones, heat water, and even provide electricity to homes.
“Walking on Sunshine” (Katrina and the Waves) – If you’ve heard this song, you fall in to one of two groups: it grates on your last nerve, or you love it and can’t help smiling and dancing every time you hear it. (I’m in the latter group.) Artists like Dolly Parton feel the same, spawning covers of the 1980s hit from a one-hit-wonder girl band. If you’ve never heard it before, give it a listen. It will make you smile.
“Sunshine on my Shoulders” (John Denver) – Beautiful, sentimental lyrics touting all that is good about sunshine and sending well-wishes to a special someone. We especially like the way the song sums up the sentiments of solar advocates everywhere: “If I had a wish that I could wish for you / I’d make a wish for sunshine all the while.”
What’s your favorite “sunshine” song?

What a fun thing to think about for a Friday! I listen to Spotify at work, so I created a collaborative playlist for us to build a #solarchat playlist! Here’s the link:
